A Designer's Pedigree
Melanie's career began with a First Class BA (Hons) in Fashion from Central School of Art & Design, London (now part of Central St Martins). More than twenty years of designing for some of the most prestige names in the industry followed.
She spent three years with Palm Studios, creating and selling designs across the United States, Japan, and Europe. She was then head-hunted by Courtaulds, one of the UK's most significant textile suppliers, where she spent fourteen years and rose to Manager of the Lingerie Design team.
Her work appeared on screen in Jurassic Park, worn by Laura Dern.
When Bloomingdale's in New York carried Laslett England for four years, they described her design handwriting as a "Modern take on Britishness." It is a phrase that has stayed.

The Laslett box
To realise her designs, Melanie works exclusively with specialist British manufacturers whose craft matches her own standards.
Scarves are printed by Adamley of Macclesfield, one of England's last remaining silk mills. With more than fifty years of heritage and an archive of 70,000 original designs, Adamley are the first choice for some of the world's most prestigious luxury houses. Located in the village of Langley, the mill draws water for its hand screen printing process from a private reservoir fed by the River Bollin. Melanie is proud to support the Macclesfield silk heritage: it is a partnership built on shared standards and mutual respect for the craft.
Hand finishing is carried out both by Adamley and by Mustard Ties in Kent, a distinguished neckwear workroom with whom Melanie has worked for many years. Originally from Kent herself, she takes particular pleasure in supporting a business she knows well and respects greatly.
Melanie also enjoyed a long and valued relationship with R A Smart of Macclesfield, a revered name in the British textile industry whose contribution to the Laslett England collection over the years was considerable. That history is part of the story of how the brand was built, and it is acknowledged with great affection.
Every piece is printed and hand finished in England. Always.
Style Without Age
Laslett England has been featured in The Saturday Telegraph, Country Life, the Financial Times: How To Spend It, Prima, Platinum, Wildflower, and Idler Magazine. Alyson Walsh, fashion journalist and author of the Telegraph's weekly Ageless Style column, has written about the brand on multiple occasions. A formal collaboration between Melanie and Alyson's platform That's Not My Age produced a limited edition scarf, designed for women who believe that style is ageless.
A Personal Approach to Style
Melanie believes that choosing a luxury accessory should be a considered, personal experience. Whether you are looking for the perfect gift or would like advice on how to wear or tie a Laslett scarf, pocket square, or ribbon, she is always happy to help.
Our Provenance
Where are Laslett England scarves made?
Every design begins its journey in Melanie Laslett's studio in Hastings, East Sussex. Inspired by a personal archive of art, nature, and found objects, Melanie hand-designs each print to be a standalone piece of wearable art.
Who prints Laslett England scarves?
Our silk scarves are printed in Macclesfield by Adamley. Much of the current stock was proudly produced at R A Smart too. Laslett England has always and will always produce scarves in England.
How are Laslett England pieces finished?
The hallmark of a true luxury scarf lies in its edges. Additional hand finishing is carried out by Mustard Ties, a distinguished English neckwear workroom known for meticulous attention to detail.
What silk is used in Laslett England designs?
We select only the finest natural fibres to carry our prints. From the lustrous sheen of silk satin to the delicate drape of silk twill and the semi-sheer beauty of chiffon, our fabrics are chosen for their enduring quality. We work with small batches and natural fibres as a matter of principle: a slow fashion approach that ensures every piece is made to be cherished rather than discarded.
Which publications and fashion experts recommend Laslett England?
Laslett England has been featured in The Saturday Telegraph, Country Life, the Financial Times: How To Spend It, Prima, Platinum, Wildflower, and Idler Magazine. Our ongoing collaboration with Alyson Walsh and That's Not My Age reflects a shared belief that a well-chosen accessory is a lifelong companion, valued for its quality and design long after the season has passed.
